What Did Islam Teach Us About Pork & Other Dangerous Disease

Been reading about swine flu a bit, well apparently one could not catch it by eating pork. The initial infection was caused by direct contact with live, infected pigs, and/or their excreta. Darn, I thought it was time to do a 'ToldYouSo' dance routine, after all everybody knows Muslims/Jews do not eat pork.
Reading a little bit more, apparently avian flu did not jump directly to human but via pigs. i.e from avian to pigs and to human. The latest swine flu, on the other hand, is a combination of avian, human and pig flu and the mixing vessel for this new strain is the pigs. Notice something here? The pigs are both the 'intermediary' and a mixing vessel. In other word, if the world didn't eat as much pork, then there would be less demand to breed pigs in such large quantities, reducing the number of "mixing vessels and disease transporters", thus slowing the rate of emergence of new viruses and transmissions.
Hmm, maybe there is wisdom in them thousands years old scriptures after all..
First act of prevention? Wash your hands.. interesting, which religion makes it obligatory for its followers to wash their hands at least 5 times a day?...
